Dream no small dreams, for they have no power to move the hearts of men

born again …

… to catch a glimpse of the Kingdom a person must be born again.

This was the challenge Jesus made to Nicodemus, a member of a leading civic and religious organization in 1st century Palestine.  This was the challenge given to a man at a crossroads in his faith.  A man confronted by the inescapable uniqueness of Jesus’ ministry.

The challenge made to Nicodemus – if you want to see the Kingdom, you’ve got to start over, because the path  you are currently on will NOT lead you toward the kingdom.

What path am I on that is NOT leading me toward the Kingdom?  How do you need to be born again so you can catch a glimpse of the Kingdom? What needs to change in you and me so we can see the Kingdom of God?

Perhaps we need to be born again and develop a new understanding and purpose for the church.  There are many who see the church as an organized religion with a political agenda.  Instead, let’s show those around us that we are an organized community with a heart to serve others. Let’s demonstrate a community that chooses to respect all people, as well as their beliefs and faiths; a community that shares it’s beliefs with humility.

Perhaps we need to be born again.  Instead of judgment and negative responses toward others we need to express that positive change is possible by loving others as Jesus would.

I married way out of my league. And I am aware of that every day. Kelly loves me, even the worst of me … like the “1st thing in the morning me”; and the “I hate being stuck in traffic me”; and she even loves the “but I only want to lay on the couch and watch TV me”. She’s my daily demonstration of grace – unmerited favor! I have three great kids – Nathan, Carissa, & Jordyn. They are the best parts of me – wow, thanks for that God, cause there weren’t a lot of good parts to work with! I’m the associate pastor @ HOPE Church. That’s my “day job”. At night … I’m the lead pastor @ Sojourn. I have the good fortune to share my life with the broken, the scallywags, and the marginalized; which works especially well because I am one of them. I love and lead a rag tag community of people who consistently demonstrate Deuteronomy 4:29 … “You will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul.” Sojourn is a community of Gen-Xers who have a desire to connect with those who have never gone to church – the “unchurched” and those who have given up on church – the “overchurched”.
