Dream no small dreams, for they have no power to move the hearts of men

a foolish message …

This morning Paul reminded me of the awesome challenge before us.

18 The Message that points to Christ on the Cross seems like sheer silliness to those hellbent on destruction, but for those on the way of salvation it makes perfect sense. This is the way God works, and most powerfully as it turns out.

1 Corinthians 1:18 (MSG)

Jesus is dead, at least that was the “conventional wisdom” of the day.  He’d been crucified.  The movement is defeated, it’s foolish to keep believing.  It’s the foolish message of the cross.

But!

But we know there’s power there.  And what seems foolish – makes perfect sense.  As Rich Mullins sang - “What is too good to be real … but is more real than the air they breathe”.

Thank you for this awesome challenge.

Even when it makes little sense to those who seem to be brighter, smarter, and more eloquent.  It is still the best plan.

Thanks God.

I married way out of my league. And I am aware of that every day. Kelly loves me, even the worst of me … like the “1st thing in the morning me”; and the “I hate being stuck in traffic me”; and she even loves the “but I only want to lay on the couch and watch TV me”. She’s my daily demonstration of grace – unmerited favor! I have three great kids – Nathan, Carissa, & Jordyn. They are the best parts of me – wow, thanks for that God, cause there weren’t a lot of good parts to work with! I’m the associate pastor @ HOPE Church. That’s my “day job”. At night … I’m the lead pastor @ Sojourn. I have the good fortune to share my life with the broken, the scallywags, and the marginalized; which works especially well because I am one of them. I love and lead a rag tag community of people who consistently demonstrate Deuteronomy 4:29 … “You will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul.” Sojourn is a community of Gen-Xers who have a desire to connect with those who have never gone to church – the “unchurched” and those who have given up on church – the “overchurched”.
